MY PERSONAL LEGEND....

I was invited to be the guest speaker for the Recognition Day of my former school, the Macalelon Central Elementary School where I am a former Alumnus. I spent my Elementary days there before I moved out to the City and continue my High School Education at Holy Rosary Catholic School. I was hesitant at first because I know that I am not yet ripe to give a message, but the mere fact that I am considered I eventually said Yes.

I guess it took me about 25 minutes or less to delivered my message and what I could not forget about the whole event is the latter part of the program. A family approached me and asked if I could have a picture with them. The thing that struck me is what the Father had told me, "Salamat Sir, Sana ay maging gaya nyo, maging guest speaker din itong mga anak ko." My heart just melt at that moment. I could not help but think about my Dad too. I know he is very proud of me too. He even checked my outfit before I leave the house. I could not also help but missed my Mom, she was always my proofreader checking my Tagalog Speeches every time I was invited in this kind of occasion. But the thought that she was listening in heaven as I was delivering my message made a filial happiness in my heart.

So let me share my message:

Sabi nga po ng DepEd “The K to 12 Basic Education Program develops and harness the skills and competencies of the Filipino Youth that will led to human and community development.

. I’ve spent more than 20 years of my life studying. Mahigit Dalawangpung taon po akong nag –aaral. From Day Care, Kindergarden  to Elemenatay, High School, sa aking pre-law at Law School.

When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”.

Huwag tayong susuko, sabi nga ni Yvonne Thorton “Never Give Up, never, never give up! Because the only person that can stop you is – you!

Ito ang tinatawag na giving back or pay it forward.

Pray at Hardwork, magka tandem po ito and it really works.

Before I would end my speech I would like to leave a very moving line from the Book of Knowledge “Education is a long term process, a journey which ends to give way for another beginning”

I hoped I conveyed my message well to the kids of MCES and to all the parents too :)

A Leap of Faith

Bloggers Note: this entry was first posted on my first blog www.thoughtsofjuan.blogspot.com which was eventually deleted by the Google team. I am re posting this entry again because were working on a new project to eventually informed and updated everybody of the groups activity and somehow inspire in someway or another the ones reading this entry.

A 30 minutes ride and walked away from the poblacion. Yesterday's rain forced us to leave the car and walked  in a bog because no vehicle could pass out of this mire. I wonder how teachers and the kids survive this everyday situation and worst the rainy season would have been a more struggle situation for them. This long road requires a good knee to face this harsh reality.
As I make a few steps out of this bog and as I caught a few glimpse to also my struggling friends. The happy kid inside me was excited by the fact that our first project was a few steps away. The story of our group whose behind this activity was too long to be unfolded. Yes, this was our first activity and as they say every's one first will always be memorable :) . And it was a very young group originally composed of seven young men and thus started on the early quarter of this year. It was formed out of drinking spree on every Beerness Night (Friday Night). You got it right, we do love  Beer and we originally intended to call ourselves the Beerness Boys but that is another story. I was indeed very lucky to be a part of this group and so lucky to find friends who in every Beerness Nights  we decipher that we have those same little idealism sprung little by little and thus COOL DOUGS was born, a cool young men. I salute these guys, I have learned things that no law books nor my long years of studying could ever provide. We care for our community and in our own little way we can contribute something for the development of the place whom have nurtured us, it was our own little way of paying forward.

As we go on and made our walk, we reached the place. It was a surreal feeling and my heart was genuinely touched by their smiles for no money nor any material things could brought a priceless happiness they brought to us. The kids patiently waited for us in their near perfect line and as they see us coming their little subtle hands made a few motion of joy and excitement. WE CAN NEVER FORGET THE SCENE.

December 5, 2013 at Baranggay Amontay, Macalelon, Quezon, our very first activity was held. A feeding program and tsinelas was given to about 108 students of the Brgy. Amontay Elementary School. We have prepared games and simple program that day. It was our group's simple way of reaching out to our community but we have realize that is them who had helped us. It made us realize further that we could do something for our country no matter how big or small it may seems. It was our first step and we intend to make few more steps.

We can never forget the scene. We can never forget the genuine happiness on every kids face and how the slippers are so precious to them, how these kids cuddles, embrace and how they use these slippers for clapping out of excitement. Some of them even murmur that they were going to use these slippers on they forthcoming Christmas party. And personally i will never forget how these kids genuinely appreciate this so simple slippers we have for them, it may not be a branded slippers but for these kids these are precious.

As our program is about to end I have certain realizations, I was fortunate to have this trustworthy friends and fortunate to be part of Cool Dougs. And I was so fortunate to have this experience first hand. These kids infirmed unto me values that I am long been holding on and mostly these kids affirmed my faith.

We will definitely come back....

Ad Aperturam

A perfect “asalto”, today is a perfect day before the big day tomorrow. The sun was resplendently shinning with its brilliant luster sooths my senses as I was on my way to the venue. This is a different sight from the usual place I go to. The sluggishness of the phone coverage and the rough roads did not prevent me to admire the simplicity of the place. My heart was pounding as I was rehearsing the flow of my script on my mind. Finally I reached the place. I carefully examine the situation, made some estimation and roughly 50 people are there. I decided to sit at the side before waiting for my turn. Then I heard my friend calling out my name, it was the signal, the floor was all mine. I made some introduction and few remarks “it was my first time and the first time was usually awesome”. Yes, it was my first time to be a resource person in the barrio of my domicile.

My lecture lasted about an hour and a half. The cadence of the lecture had prevented me to feel the scourging heat of the sun. The energy that I have exhausted during the talking was relieved by the smiles and the cooperation of the people on the venue. Their faces leave a long lasting image on my mind. The lecture was for the Family Development Session (FDS) of the Department of Social Welfare Development or DSWD, 4 P’s program or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program which aims to strengthen the Pilipino family especially the poor. I was invited to be a Resource Person for today’s topic by a very good friend of mine, Ms. Tina Lim, and since I was in a hibernate mode (it feels like), I said YES to the invitation.

As I headed home I have brought with me learning’s and new experience that neither Newspapers nor News channel could ever provide. With today’s activity on the eve of my special day tomorrow I had carried me a pieces of new information which I will put on my big bag of learning’s. My career may be in a topsy-turvy situation right now. I may be idle; I may not put into blueprint the plans I have in my mind; I may not yet support the scholars I have in mind and I did not reach my target goals at this point in time. But today’s experience has solidified my perception that whatever situation you are into you can help in whatever form and in whatever kind. This was also affirmed by my brods/Cool Dougs activity of our feeding program and giving away slippers of the elementary students of Bgy. Amontay and Olongtao Ilaya. Spending my time with them today was priceless, somehow I have imparted to them little knowledge I have acquired during my long years in College. But like what I have said I have learned more out of this activity. A perfect “asalto” J

One thing, Yesterday, I accidentally read the card my younger brother gave to me a few years ago, it states Be patient because God prepares something big for you. Patience means knowing it will happen … and giving time it will happen”.
